A Lantern Built to Stand on Its Own

Most lanterns need a wall to hang from. The Bayview Single Medium Pillar Lantern doesn't, it comes on its own fluted post and hexagonal fixing base, so it can mark a driveway, a path or a front gate without borrowing space on the house itself. At just over a metre tall, it reads as a fixed point in the garden rather than an afterthought bolted near the door.

Black Cast Aluminium and Bevelled Glass

The lantern head is cast aluminium finished in a deep matte black, with a fine, slightly stippled texture across the roof and column rather than a flat gloss coat. Four clear bevelled glass panels form the sides, framed by slim glazing bars that meet at a ribbed dome roof and a small ball finial. The column below is fluted top to bottom, narrowing gently before it meets the flared, hexagonal base plate that carries it to the ground.

How It Works

A single E27 bulb sits centrally inside the glazed head, spreading light out through all four glass panels rather than throwing it in one direction. The bulb isn't included, and an E27 LED is the recommended fit. Choose a dimmable one and the lantern will work with a compatible dimmer switch. As with any fixed outdoor light on its own post, we recommend installation by a qualified electrician.

Where It Works Best

Set at the edge of a driveway, either side of a front path, or at the corner of a lawn, the Bayview post lantern works as a marker as much as a light source, useful anywhere a wall mounted fitting simply isn't an option. It's rated IP44, so it's built to cope with rain and everyday outdoor exposure rather than needing a sheltered spot.
