A lantern built to stand alone
Most exterior lanterns need a wall or a post to hang from. The Baltimore Pedestal Lantern doesn't, it stands on its own fluted plinth, working like a miniature lamp post for a driveway edge, gate pier or garden path. The tapering glass body, leafy finial and scrolled shoulders carry the same period coach lantern character as the rest of the Baltimore range.
Weathered bronze and amber glass
Steel construction in a weathered bronze finish gives the casting a soft, uneven patina, with warm copper toned flecks catching the light along the scrollwork and reeded base. Amber tinted glass panes take the edge off the light and keep the fitting looking settled rather than stark, an effect that shows clearly once the lamp is lit inside.
How It Works
A single E27 lamp holder sits inside the lantern head, so light spreads out through all four glass sides rather than throwing a single beam. That makes it better suited to marking a spot such as an entrance or step edge than to lighting a wide area. The bulb isn't supplied, so it can be fitted with an LED lamp to suit.
Where It Works Best
Set it either side of a driveway entrance, along a run of garden steps, or on gate piers, where a pair adds symmetry either side of an opening. Because it has its own weighted base plate rather than a wall bracket, it also suits a spot where there's no vertical surface to mount to, on a low wall coping or a paved plinth.
Elstead and the Baltimore range
Elstead Lighting is a British decorative lighting group and distributor whose roots trace back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and the business is still led by the Lucas family today. The Baltimore design is offered across pedestal, half lantern and wall mounted formats in the same weathered bronze finish, so a scheme can mix all three around a property without any of them looking out of place next to each other.

Questions People Ask
Does the Baltimore Pedestal Lantern need to be fixed to a wall? No. It stands on its own fluted plinth and base plate, so it works anywhere with a firm, level surface to bolt down to, such as a pier cap or a low wall coping.
Is this lantern suitable for outdoor use? Yes, it's rated IP44, which covers driveway, path and garden use in all normal weather.
Is the Baltimore Pedestal Lantern dimmable? Yes, as long as you fit a dimmable E27 bulb. A non dimmable bulb won't respond to a dimmer switch.
Can I match this to other Baltimore lights on the same property? Yes. The pedestal, half lantern and wall mounted versions share the same weathered bronze finish and detailing, so they can be mixed around a driveway or entrance without clashing.
