A lantern on a proper post
The Baltimore lamp post stands 239cm tall, tall enough that its lantern head sits above head height, throwing light out across a driveway or path rather than down at your feet. A leaf finial and a pair of curling scrolls top the lantern, sitting over a fluted column that widens into a stepped, hexagonal base plate for setting into paving, gravel or a lawn edge.
Weathered Bronze finish
The steel frame is cast in Weathered Bronze, a near black base coat with copper and bronze breaking through on the fluted column, the scrollwork and every leaf tip, so it already looks settled in rather than freshly painted. The lantern's glass panels are amber tinted and rippled, giving the light a bit of texture and warmth once the bulb is lit rather than a flat, even glow.
How it works
A single E27 bulb sits behind the glass on a hardwired connection that runs up through the base, so it needs wiring in rather than plugging in. Fit a dimmable bulb and it will work with a dimmer switch; anything else will run at full brightness only.
Where it works best
It suits a proper garden setting rather than a tight side passage, standing either side of a gate, marking the start of a drive, or spaced along a path where you want light at head height. The 30cm wide base needs some clearance around it, so it's worth measuring the spot before you dig in.
Elstead Lighting
Elstead is a British lighting group with roots tracing back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and the business is still led today by the Lucas family. The same lantern head design used here on the Baltimore post also appears on matching wall brackets and a shorter pedestal light in the range, so a driveway post and a porch light either side of a front door can be matched from the same family.
