A mirror shine bar that answers to the light around it
Polished chrome has a habit of catching whatever light is nearby and throwing it straight back, and the Alton picture light plays on that: a slim, reflective tube on a curved arm that looks sharp even before it is switched on, then earns its place once it is.
High shine, low fuss
The finish is a true mirror polish rather than a satin or brushed texture, so expect it to pick up reflections of the room around it. It pairs naturally with glass, mirrored furniture and other chrome fittings, and reads crisp against most wall colours.
How it works
A built in LED strip runs the length of the bar, casting a wide, even wash of warm white light down onto the artwork below rather than a single hot spot. The arm swings out from the round backplate and the head tilts independently, so the light can be pointed rather than just left to fall where it lands.
Where it works best
Framed prints, paintings and photography are the obvious fit, and it also works well over a mirror or a display shelf where a clean wash of light does more good than a downlight ever could. This large size is sized for wider frames, so the light reaches both edges rather than pooling in the middle.
One finish among several
Alton is available in two sizes and a handful of finishes, with polished chrome the shiniest of the lineup. It comes from Elstead, a British lighting company that has been designing fittings from Alton, Hampshire since 1971 and still trades on the same traditional and transitional styling it started with.
