Polished chrome catches every scrap of ambient light in a room and throws it straight back, so the Alton picture light reads as a crisp, reflective line across the wall before it is ever switched on. Mounted above a frame, its slim tube and curved arm draw the eye upward, then the integrated LED finishes the job.

A true mirror polish, not a brushed or satin chrome

This is a high shine, true mirror polish rather than the softer brushed or satin finishes sold elsewhere in the Alton range, so it reflects the room around it instead of diffusing it. It sits naturally alongside glass, mirrored furniture and other polished metal fittings, and reads sharply against most wall colours without disappearing into them.

How It Works

A 10W integrated LED bar runs the length of the tube, producing a broad, even wash of 3000K warm white light rather than a single hot spot, rated by Elstead at 549 lumens. The curved arm swings the bar out and down from the round wall plate, and the head itself tilts, so the light can be aimed onto the artwork rather than left to fall wherever the arm happens to point. It wires directly into the mains as a Class I fitting, so we recommend a qualified electrician handles the installation, and there is no dimmer switch compatibility to plan around since the driver runs at a fixed output.

Where It Works Best

Large framed prints, canvases and photography are the obvious match, and this large size is built for wider frames so the light reaches both edges rather than pooling in the middle. It also earns its keep over a mirror, a run of shelved objects or a gallery wall, and suits a living room, dining room, hallway or home office equally well.

Elstead Lighting

Alton comes from Elstead, a British lighting company whose roots trace back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and whose collections are still guided by the same Lucas family that has run the business since 1971. The traditional and transitional styling that built Elstead's reputation carries through even into a fitting as pared back as this one, and the same picture light shape is also sold in a smaller size and in a small number of other finishes for matching existing room hardware.

Is the Alton picture light dimmable? No. The integrated LED bar runs at a fixed output and is not compatible with a dimmer switch.

Can the bulb be replaced? No. The LED is built into the bar itself rather than fitted as a separate lamp, so there is no bulb to swap out.

Do I need an electrician to install this light? Yes. Alton wires directly into the mains rather than plugging in, so we recommend a qualified electrician handles the installation.
