Some picture lights want to be noticed. The large Alton, in brushed nickel, is built to do the opposite: a slim LED bar on a curved arm that throws its light downward and lets the artwork underneath take the credit.

Brushed nickel, not polished chrome

This finish has a soft, faintly warm silver tone rather than the mirror bright shine of chrome, so it sits quietly against most wall colours instead of competing with them. It pairs comfortably with silver picture frames, pewter hardware, or cooler grey and blue schemes, and the bar and arm share the same brushed finish throughout so there is no mismatched trim.

How It Works

A 10W LED strip is built into the length of the bar and casts a broad, even wash of 3000K warm white light, rated at 549 lumens, downward onto whatever sits beneath it. The arm swings out from the round wall plate and the bar itself tilts on its own hinge, so the light can be angled to land on the picture rather than the wall above it. It wires directly into the mains as a Class I fitting, so it needs a qualified electrician to install.

Where It Works Best

Framed art and photography are the obvious match, though the large Alton also works well over a console table display, a run of bookshelves, or a decorative mirror where a soft wash of light is welcome rather than a spotlight. At 67.4cm wide, this large size suits wider frames or a cluster of smaller ones, and it works equally well in living rooms, dining rooms, hallways and home offices.

Is the large Alton picture light dimmable? No. Its integrated LED bar runs at a fixed output and is not compatible with dimmer switches.

Can the LED be replaced if it fails? No. The LED strip is built into the bar itself rather than fitted as a separate bulb, so it is not user replaceable. It is covered by a 2 year warranty.

What size frame does the large Alton suit? At 67.4cm wide, the large Alton is sized for wider individual frames or a cluster of smaller pictures. A smaller Alton is also available for narrower frames.

Do I need an electrician to fit this light? Yes. The Alton wires directly into the mains as a Class I fitting, so we recommend it is installed by a qualified electrician.
