A ribbon of gold, caught in motion
Corbett's Calligraphy sconce takes its name literally: sweeping bands of metal, finished by hand, loop and curl across the wall like a flourish of script, wrapping around a small central glass lens where the light lives. It's an abstract, sculptural take on lettering rather than a literal one, more the gesture of a pen stroke than actual letters, and it reads as much like a piece of wall art as a light source.
Gold Leaf finish
Each ribbon is finished in Gold Leaf, giving the metal a warm, slightly variegated glow rather than a flat uniform shine, so the surface catches the light differently depending on the angle you view it from. It sits beautifully against darker or richly coloured walls, deep green, charcoal, ink blue, where the gold has room to stand out, though it also works as a softer accent against lighter neutral schemes.
How it works
Two integrated LED light sources (2W each, 4W total) sit behind glass at the centre of the fixture, so there are no bulbs to change. The sconce measures 12 inches wide and 12 inches high, projects 6.5 inches from the wall, and is fitted to a round backplate roughly 5.5 inches across.
Where it works best
Its compact, near circular footprint suits hallways, landings, and either side of a mirror or headboard, anywhere you want a considered accent of light rather than a main source of illumination. Because the LEDs are relatively low output, it works best paired with other lighting in larger rooms, or on its own in a smaller space where a gentle decorative glow is the goal.
About Corbett
For over 40 years, Corbett Lighting has been designing bold, sculptural fixtures that the brand describes as jewellery for the wall, statement pieces finished with the sophisticated, chic style Corbett has become known for. Corbett belongs to Hudson Valley Lighting Group, alongside sister brands Mitzi and Troy Lighting, a family business with roots stretching back to 1939, when Brooklyn inventor William Littman was inspired by the fluorescent lighting unveiled at that year's New York World's Fair. His grandson, David Littman, later built on that legacy to found Hudson Valley Lighting Group in the 1980s.
