A Directional Spotlight Built for the Outside of the House
The Collingwood WL220 is a compact LED wall light designed to throw a controlled beam across brick, render or stone rather than just glow at the wall. Its cylindrical head houses a 5.7W LED with a 40 degree beam angle, rated at roughly 515 to 530 lumens depending on which colour temperature you choose, so it has enough punch to pick out a doorway, a run of steps or a section of planting without washing out the whole facade.
The Bronze Finish
This version comes in a warm bronze anodised aluminium finish that reads more like aged metal than painted steel. It sits comfortably against red brick, natural stone or timber cladding and tends to disappear into the wall in daylight rather than standing out as an obvious fitting. Collingwood also makes the WL220 in stainless steel, black and copper, so bronze is the one to reach for on a period house or anywhere you want the fitting itself to stay understated.
How It Works
Because this is the straight to mains version, the WL220 wires directly into a standard lighting circuit with no separate driver or transformer to find space for, using parallel wiring. The head tilts through 90 degrees and rotates through 360 degrees on its base, so you can angle it up a wall, down onto a path or straight ahead along a boundary. It isn't compatible with dimmer switches, so it runs at a fixed output once wired in. Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Where It Works Best
This is an exterior fitting first and foremost, built for house fronts, side returns, garden walls and steps where you want a defined pool or wash of light rather than broad floodlighting. Its IP65 rating means it copes with driving rain and coastal exposure as well as ordinary UK weather. That same IP65 rating also clears the requirements for the wettest bathroom zones, so the same fitting and beam control can be used indoors over a bath or in a shower enclosure if you want it there too. Read Moonlight's guide to bathroom lighting zones before you plan the position.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood designs and manufactures its LED fittings from Sywell in Northamptonshire and has worked solely in LED technology since 2002. The brand states it was among the first to bring fire rated, fully sealed for life and mains dimmable LED products into the UK electrical wholesale market, part of a broader push to get mains voltage LED lighting into everyday installations. It has also been awarded an EcoVadis Gold medal, placing it in the top 5% of companies assessed globally for sustainability.
