A clean join in a run of 10mm LED strip
This is Collingwood's LSK2210SS, the Fast Fix strip to strip connector made for their 10mm LED tape. It does one job and does it neatly. Two cut ends of strip push into either side and the run simply carries on, with no soldering iron and no wiring to make up on site. Collingwood describes the result as an almost seamless transition from one piece of strip to the next, and that is really the point of it. You get a continuous line of light instead of an obvious break.
Clear polycarbonate body, sprung copper contacts
The housing is moulded in clear polycarbonate, so it reads as a small glassy block rather than a dark lump sitting in the channel. Inside, sprung copper contacts press onto the solder pads on the tape and hold the circuit. The whole part is deliberately low and flat, slim enough to drop inside most LED strip profiles once it is closed. It pairs with Collingwood's LSP dotless strip and the LSC02 range, both of which are 10mm wide. The equivalent parts for 8mm tape are the LSK2208 codes, so check the width of your strip before ordering.
How It Works
Each end of the connector opens on a small hinged flap. The cut end of the strip slides in with the copper pads facing the contacts, then the flap closes and clamps the two together. Polarity matters, so line up the plus and minus markings on both pieces of tape the same way round. Cut only on the printed cut points, which on the LSP strip fall every 29.4mm. What you get is the connector on its own. Strip, driver and profile are all separate items. If you need to bring power into a run rather than continue one, the LSK2210SD strip to driver version is the part to reach for instead.
Where It Works Best
This lives inside the installation rather than on show. The classic use is inside an aluminium profile under a kitchen wall unit, where a 5m reel has run out partway along and a second length has to pick up where the first stopped. It earns its place just as much in a shelf, a cove detail, a stair nosing, a wardrobe interior or a plinth, anywhere the tape has been cut to length and the pieces need rejoining. Because it is IP20 it belongs indoors in dry positions only, so keep it out of bathroom zones and away from anywhere it could get splashed.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood designs and manufactures its LED products from Sywell in Northamptonshire. LED has been the entire focus of the business since 2002, which is why the strip range arrives with a proper matched family of connectors and profiles rather than a handful of generic parts. The brand states it was among the first to bring fire rated, fully sealed for life and mains dimmable LED products to the UK electrical wholesale market. Collingwood has also been awarded an EcoVadis Gold medal, placing it in the top 5% of companies assessed globally for sustainability.
Good to Know
- Backed by a two year Collingwood warranty.
- Rated IP20, which means no protection against water at all. Dry indoor positions only.
- Built from polycarbonate with copper contacts.
- Sized for 10mm wide Collingwood strip, specifically the LSP and LSC02 ranges. It will not take the 8mm tapes, which use the LSK2208 connectors.
- It has no effect on dimming. Whatever the strip and driver pairing already supports carries straight on through the joint.
- Slim enough to sit inside most Collingwood strip profiles, so the join stays hidden once the diffuser goes back on.
- Listed as non returnable, so confirm your strip code and tape width before you order.
- Wipe the copper pads clean and dry before you close the flap. Adhesive residue from the tape backing is the usual reason a joined section fails to light.
- Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Questions People Ask
What does the Collingwood LSK2210SS connector actually do?
The Collingwood LSK2210SS is a solder free strip to strip connector that joins two cut ends of 10mm LED tape end to end, allowing a run of Collingwood LSP or LSC02 strip to continue in a straight line without soldering or hand wiring.
Will the LSK2210SS fit 8mm LED strip?
No. The LSK2210SS is sized for 10mm wide LED strip only. Collingwood's 8mm tapes, such as LSV02 and LSV05, take the LSK2208 series of connectors instead.
Do I need tools to fit this connector?
No tools are needed to make the connection itself, as the LSK2210SS clamps onto the LED strip by hand. A sharp blade or a pair of scissors is needed beforehand to cut the tape cleanly on one of its marked cut points.
Can this connector be used in a bathroom?
No. The LSK2210SS carries an IP20 rating, which offers no protection against moisture, so it must only be used in dry indoor locations outside bathroom zones.
Will the connector still fit inside an LED strip profile?
Yes. Collingwood gives the LSK2210SS a deliberately slim profile so it sits down inside most LED strip channels once fitted, keeping the joint out of sight behind the diffuser.
