A Solder Free Way to Get Power Into Your LED Strip
Every run of LED tape needs a first connection, the one that takes the output of the driver and feeds it into the strip itself. This is the part that does that job. Collingwood calls it the LSK2208SD, a fast fix clip that grips the cut end of an 8mm strip and carries a pair of flying leads out to the driver terminals. No soldering iron, no heat near the tape, no tinning copper pads by hand.
Anyone who has tried to solder a fresh strip end at the top of a ladder knows exactly why that matters. Here the clip closes onto the tape and the connection is made.
The 8mm Fast Fix Version
This is the 8mm member of the LSK2208 family, sized to the width of Collingwood's LSV02 and LSV05 flexible tape. Collingwood lists it as an accessory on both of those strips, sitting alongside the strip to strip, flex bend and L bend connectors that share the same body. The moulding is small and mostly white, with the metal contact plate visible through the clear top so you can see the pads line up, and the lead is an ordinary red and black twin core with bare tinned ends ready to drop into a driver's screw terminals. Both LSV02 and LSV05 are 24V DC constant voltage tapes, so this connector lives on the extra low voltage side of the installation rather than the mains side.
How It Works
The clip opens, the end of the tape slides in so its copper pads meet the sprung contacts inside, and the clip presses shut to hold everything together. That contact pressure is what carries the current, which is why the strip has to be cut cleanly on one of its printed cut points before the connector goes on. LSV02 gives you a cut point every 100mm, LSV05 every 50mm. The free ends of the red and black leads then land in the DC output terminals of the driver. Constant voltage tape is polarity sensitive, so check the plus and minus markings on the strip and match them at the driver before you power anything up. The leads arrive already fitted to the connector body, so there is nothing to assemble first.
Where It Works Best
Anywhere a run of 8mm tape has to meet its driver. In practice that is the head of an under cabinet run in a kitchen, the start of a cove or pelmet detail, the top of a wardrobe or bookcase, or the first stretch of a plinth or stair run. The slim body is the whole point. Most aluminium strip profile is only just wider than the tape it houses, and a bulky joint forces you to leave the connection outside the channel where it shows. Collingwood designs this one to sit inside most profiles with the diffuser clipped back on.
It is also the sensible choice in a shallow ceiling void or a plasterboard bulkhead, where there is no room to swing a soldering iron and no good reason to take heat near timber or insulation. Because it is quick to release, it makes future maintenance easier too. A damaged section of tape can be unclipped and swapped without disturbing the driver end of the circuit.

- The strip must be cut on one of its marked cut points, otherwise the copper pads will not line up with the contacts in the clip.
- Dimming is handled at the driver, not at the connector. LSV02 and LSV05 are dimmable depending on which driver you pair them with, and Collingwood's 24V drivers use a separate 1-10V interface for that.
- Keep the contacts clean and dry when fitting. A fingerprint or a stray fleck of adhesive on the copper pads is the most common cause of a poor connection.

No. The Collingwood LSK2208SD is rated IP20, which offers no protection against water or moisture, so it should only be installed in dry indoor locations. Bathrooms, kitchen splash zones and any external position all need equipment with a suitable higher IP rating.
