One Emergency Bulkhead Doing The Work Of Several
The Salvus Max is Collingwood's high output emergency bulkhead, made for buildings where a single fitting has to cover a lot of floor. It puts out up to 1500 lumens at 6500K through a wide 135 degree spread, which is a long way past what a standard emergency bulkhead manages. If you have been pricing up a long run of small emergency units down a warehouse aisle, this is the fitting that lets you space them much further apart instead.
White Polycarbonate With A Clear Prismatic Lens
The housing is moulded polycarbonate in plain white, with a clear ribbed lens sitting over a dense grid of LEDs and held down by metal catches around the rim. It is a working look rather than a decorative one, and it sits happily against the surfaces it usually lands on, painted plaster, concrete soffits, steel purlins and blockwork. The unit measures 321mm long by 167mm wide by 83mm deep and weighs 1.5kg, so it stays fairly flat to the ceiling for its size. An IK08 impact rating means it shrugs off the odd clout from a ladder or a passing pallet.
How It Works
This is the non maintained, manual test version. Non maintained means the LEDs stay dark while mains power is present and only strike when the supply drops, so it costs almost nothing to run day to day. Manual test means you or your maintenance contractor carry out the required tests by hand at the fitting and keep the records, rather than the luminaire running its own automatic test routine. Output is switchable between 6W and 10W, giving roughly 1000 to 1500 lumens, so you can set it to match the spacing your design calls for. Collingwood publishes an efficacy figure of 167 lumens per watt. It wires straight to the mains with no separate driver to find room for, the wiring is parallel, and the charge is held in a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery, a chemistry Collingwood chose for long service life and quick recharge. Collingwood lists ceiling, wall, suspended, BESA and M20 conduit mounting, so it will go up almost anywhere you need it.
Where It Works Best
Warehouses and distribution centres are the obvious home, especially tall spaces where the ceiling is a long way from the floor. Collingwood's own coverage figures put it at 1 lux at floor level on 29 metre spacings from a 15 metre mounting height, and 0.5 lux on 40 metre spacings from 25 metres. The same output makes sense on factory floors, in workshops and plant rooms, and over loading bays, car parks and covered service yards. Because it is IP66, dust and jetting water are not a concern, so unheated stores and washdown areas are fair game.
