The Left Arrow Legend For The Salvus Exit Box
This is the left arrow legend for Collingwood's Salvus Emergency Exit Box, product code EMBXLE. It is the printed graphic panel rather than the light fitting, so it is the part you order when an escape route runs to the left and the sign above the door needs to say so. Buying the legend separately is what lets one box cover any direction on site.
Green PVC, White Pictogram, Printed To ISO 3864-1
The legend arrives as a PVC label finished in the standard safety green, with the running man figure and a broad arrow pointing left picked out in white. That solid block of green behind the white artwork is what gives the sign its contrast from the far end of a corridor. It is cut to suit the Salvus Emergency Exit Box and sits alongside the up and right legends in the same range, EMBXUP and EMBXRI, so a building needing several directions ends up with artwork that matches panel for panel.
How It Works
What you get is the label on its own. There is no lamp, no battery, no driver and nothing to connect, because the legend simply applies to the face of the Salvus Emergency Exit Box. Collingwood supplies it in PVC for exactly that reason, to keep fitting quick and to let a direction be corrected without touching the wiring. The box itself holds the LED gear and the emergency battery and is quoted by Collingwood at a 35 metre viewing distance, so getting the orientation of the legend right before the sign goes into service is the whole job. Note that this legend is made for the Salvus Emergency Exit Box. The Salvus Exit Blade has its own separate legends.
Where It Works Best
Anywhere a Salvus Emergency Exit Box is mounted above a door head, at a corridor junction or on a stairwell landing and the escape route continues to the reader's left. Offices, schools, retail units, warehouses, hotel corridors and communal areas in flats all tend to run these boxes in numbers, and the direction needed varies door by door. It is also the part to reach for when a fire risk assessment changes a route, or when a refurbishment reverses the way people leave a floor, and the existing boxes need to point somewhere new rather than being replaced.

Questions People Ask
Does this include the exit box itself?
No. Collingwood EMBXLE is the left arrow legend supplied on its own as a green PVC label. The Collingwood Salvus Emergency Exit Box, along with its LED gear and emergency battery, is bought as a separate product.
Which way does the arrow point?
The EMBXLE legend shows a white arrow pointing left, next to the standard white running man figure, on a green background. Collingwood also produces up and right versions of the same legend under the codes EMBXUP and EMBXRI.
What is the Collingwood Salvus exit box legend made of?
The Salvus Emergency Exit Box legend is made of PVC. It is supplied as a flat printed label that applies to the face of the exit box, which is why a direction can be changed without removing the fitting.
Does fitting the legend need an electrician?
Changing a Salvus exit box legend involves no wiring, because the PVC label carries no electrical connection of any kind. The Salvus Emergency Exit Box it applies to is a mains powered emergency fitting and should be installed by a qualified electrician.
What safety standard is the exit legend printed to?
Collingwood prints the Salvus exit legends in line with ISO 3864-1, the international standard covering safety sign design, colours and pictograms. Collingwood is also a member of ICEL, the UK emergency lighting industry body.
