A Sensor That Bolts Straight Onto the Fitting
The Collingwood Salvus Bolt-On PIR Sensor turns an ordinary luminaire into an automatic one without adding a single extra cable. It screws into the standard M20 entry on the fitting, so there is no separate sensor to find a home for on the wall and no second circuit to chase in. Collingwood quotes a four minute conversion time, which is the number that counts when there is a whole run of battens to get through in one visit. It draws 0.5W and switches the light cleanly on and off.
White Polycarbonate, Shaped to Sit on the Luminaire
The body is white polycarbonate, slim and slightly angled, with a faceted lens dome set into the raised neck at one end so the sensor looks down and out into the space rather than along the ceiling. At the opposite end a hex collar and a threaded male spigot do the actual work of fixing, mating with the M20 gland entry on the host fitting. Two small rotary dials sit on the flat face, marked LUX and TIME. Against a white batten or a white anti corrosive housing the whole thing reads as part of the luminaire rather than something bolted to it.
How It Works
A passive infrared sensor watches for changes in heat as someone moves through its field of view, and holds the connected light on while it keeps seeing movement. The TIME dial sets how long the light stays lit after the space empties. The LUX dial sets the daylight threshold, so the sensor can be told to leave the light off when there is already enough natural light coming in. Both are adjusted with a small screwdriver on the face of the unit, which means settings can be tuned once the fitting is up and the space is in real use.
What you fit is the bolt on head itself. It goes into the M20 interface used across Collingwood's Borealis, Caiman Anti-Corrosive and Lentus ranges and is wired inside the luminaire. This is the on/off version, so it switches rather than dims. Collingwood's dimming alternative is the PIRBOLTDIM, which additionally needs the luminaire to have a 0-10V driver.
Where It Works Best
Collingwood specifies this sensor for mounting heights of 2.5 to 6.0 metres, which puts it squarely in warehouse aisles, workshops, plant rooms, loading bays, stock rooms, corridors and covered parking. Anywhere lights get left burning in an empty space is where it pays for itself. The IP65 rating opens up the damp and dusty end of that list too, so wash down areas, unheated stores and vehicle bays are all fair game alongside a clean office corridor.
Because it is IP65 rated it can also be used in a bathroom, provided the fitting it is mounted on is placed correctly for the zone it sits in. Our guide to bathroom lighting zones explains how those zones work.
It is equally at home on a refit. If a building already has compatible Collingwood luminaires in place, adding occupancy control becomes a job of minutes per fitting rather than a rewire.

Yes. A rotary dial on the face of the sensor marked LUX sets the ambient light threshold, so the sensor will hold the light off when the space is already bright enough and only respond to movement once daylight drops below the level you set.
