A drop rod that brings the light down to where the work happens
High bay luminaires usually have to be fixed to whatever structure is available, and in a warehouse or a workshop that structure is often a long way above the floor. The Collingwood HBROD rod mount kit is the simple answer to that problem. It is a rigid drop rod that hangs the luminaire 1.5 metres below the fixing point, so the light output starts closer to the working plane instead of being wasted in the roof void.
A slim matt black rod, threaded at both ends
The rod measures 1500mm in length and 28mm in diameter, and it is finished in matt black. That matters more than it sounds. Against dark steelwork and shadowed roof decking, a black rod disappears and the eye reads only the luminaire below it. The two ends are threaded differently on purpose. One end carries an M10 thread, which is the size the luminaire itself accepts. The other carries an M20 thread for the fixing above, matching the M20 interface used across Collingwood's bay range.
How It Works
The kit does one job and does it mechanically. You fix the M20 end to the structure or to the M20 mounting point you are working from, then thread the luminaire onto the M10 end. Nothing about the luminaire's own electrics changes. The supply cable runs as it normally would, and the rod simply carries the weight and sets the height. Because the rod is rigid rather than a chain or a wire, the luminaire stays square and pointed straight down, which keeps the beam pattern predictable across a bay. What you receive is the rod itself with its threaded ends. The luminaire, the fixing hardware above it and any washers are separate.
Where It Works Best
This is an installer's part, so think in terms of buildings rather than rooms. It earns its place in warehouses and distribution centres where the roof steel sits high above the racking, in workshops and vehicle bays where you want light closer to the bench, and in factory floors and sports halls where the structural ceiling is simply higher than the lighting design calls for. It is equally useful in a retrofit, where an existing high level fixing point is the only one available and dropping the luminaire is easier than moving the fixing. Anywhere the gap between the structure and the useful height is roughly a metre and a half, this is the accessory that closes it.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood designs and manufactures its LED products in Sywell, Northamptonshire, and has worked in LED technology since 2002. The brand states that it was among the first to bring fire rated, fully sealed for life and mains dimmable LED products to the UK electrical wholesale market. It also holds an EcoVadis Gold medal, which places it in the top 5% of companies assessed worldwide for sustainability. Accessories like this rod are a good illustration of how the range is put together, with the mounting options designed alongside the luminaires rather than sourced in afterwards.
