Emergency Backup for the Caiman Range, Fitted in Minutes
This bolt-on converter turns a compatible Collingwood Caiman luminaire into an emergency fitting. It bolts through the M20 interface in around 4 minutes, so an existing fitting can gain emergency backup without being replaced.
The Corridor Lens, Manual Test Version
This version uses a corridor lens, which throws a narrower, elongated spread of light rather than a wide pool. That makes it suited to escape routes and corridors rather than open rooms. It's also the manual test variant, so testing is triggered by hand with a test key or switch, rather than run automatically on a set schedule.
How It Works
- Bolts onto the M20 interface of a compatible Caiman luminaire, it isn't a standalone light
- Non-maintained operation, so the LED only lights during a mains failure or when a test is triggered
- Rated for 3 hours of emergency operation once triggered
- Output up to 2.5W at 6000K, giving a cool white emergency light
- Testing is manual, using a key or switch at the unit
Where It Works Best
This converter is built for corridors, stairwells and other escape routes in offices, schools, warehouses and similar commercial buildings where a Caiman luminaire is already fitted or specified. Because it fits inside the M20 opening, it keeps the emergency function tucked into the existing fitting rather than adding a separate visible unit on the ceiling or wall. It's best specified alongside the Caiman luminaire itself, since it's designed to complete that fitting rather than work alone.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood Lighting designs and manufactures its LED products from Sywell in Northamptonshire, and has focused on LED technology since 2002. The brand says it was among the first to bring fire rated, fully sealed for life, and mains dimmable LED products to the UK electrical wholesale market, and pieces like this emergency converter follow the same practical, fit and forget thinking. Questions People Ask
Can this be used on its own, without a Caiman luminaire?
No. It's designed to bolt through the M20 interface of a compatible Collingwood Caiman fitting and isn't a standalone emergency light.
How is the emergency test triggered on this version?
This is the manual test version, so testing is triggered by hand using a test key or switch, rather than an automatic self-test routine.
How long will it stay lit in an emergency?
It's rated for 3 hours of non-maintained operation, meaning it lights during a mains failure or a manual test and stays off the rest of the time.
What kind of light spread does the corridor lens give?
An oval, elongated spread aimed along escape routes and corridors, rather than the wider pool a standard lens would give in an open room.
How long does fitting take?
Around 4 minutes, once it's bolted through the M20 opening of a compatible Caiman luminaire.
