LED strips are brilliant, but on their own they show up as a string of individual points rather than one smooth beam. This Collingwood profile fixes that. Slot a strip inside, snap the diffuser over the top, and what comes out is a single even line of light with no visible dots.

The 28mm Deep Surface Mount Profile

This is the deep surface mount version of Collingwood's aluminium profile range, 23.2mm wide and 28mm deep, made from anodised aluminium with a frosted plastic diffuser that clips into the channel. It's sold in two lengths, 100cm and 200cm, so you can pick the run that matches the space you're lighting.

How It Works

• The aluminium channel holds an LED strip along its length and doubles as a heatsink, helping the strip run cooler.
• The frosted diffuser clips over the open face and spreads the light from each LED into one continuous line rather than a row of bright points.
• A cable exit hole needs to be drilled through the rear of the profile on site, there isn't one pre cut, so plan the position before you fix it in place.
• Matching end caps are sold separately and give the finished ends of the profile a neat, closed off look.

Where It Works Best

Because it's suited to indoor and outdoor use, this profile turns up in a lot of different jobs. Electricians and fitters use it to line ceiling voids and coving for a hidden wash of light, to edge shelves and display units, and to run continuous light under kitchen cabinets. Being surface mounted rather than recessed, it's a good option where there's no depth to chase a channel into the structure, on an existing ceiling or an external wall for example.
