Flush to the ceiling, the Forked Ceiling Opal Globe Shade keeps a low profile until it is switched on. A solid metal dome sits over the top half of a handblown opal globe, so the light reads as a soft, contained glow rather than a bare bulb. Cast fork detailing and diamond cut linear knurling run through the fittings, marks of a piece built by hand rather than stamped out by machine.

The shade and fittings come in Brass, Burnt Steel, Gun Metal or Steel. Brass brings a warm gold tone into the room, Burnt Steel shifts between charcoal and a faint blue sheen depending on the light, Gun Metal sits flat and dark, and Steel gives the cleanest, coolest read of the four.

How It Works

The shade is cast, machined and hand spun solid metal, refined by hand after shaping. Underneath it, a handblown opal glass globe diffuses the light evenly rather than showing a hotspot. It ships with the dimmable Buster Bulb, an E27 LED rated up to 7W, wired for 220 to 240V AC and rated IP20 for dry indoor use.

Where It Works Best

This is the Medium size, sized for a hallway, landing or smaller room where you want a fitting that sits close and quiet rather than commanding attention, the Large steps up for bigger rooms or higher ceilings. Because it is the ceiling mounted version, it fixes flush with no drop, which suits rooms where a hanging pendant would sit too low. Where you want the fixture to hang and set its own height, the Pendant version of this same globe and shade does that job instead.
