A 1G Back Box for Plasterboard Walls
This 1G back box is the concealed housing that sits behind a Buster + Punch UK switch or socket. It's built in durable plastic and sized for plasterboard and stud wall construction, giving the fixing points and depth needed to mount the finished plate flush once the wall is closed up.
How It Fits Into the System
Fitted into the stud wall before the plasterboard goes up, this back box holds the wiring and terminal connections out of sight, with the decorative plate, dimmer or toggle module fixing to the front of it. Match the gang size to the plate you're installing: this is a single gang box, sized for 1G Buster + Punch switches, dimmers and sockets. Installation should always be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Like the solid wall version in this range, this plasterboard back box disappears behind the wall the moment it's fitted, so its build quality is never something a customer actually inspects. Buster + Punch's founder, Massimo Buster Minale, spent years as an architect, including time at Foster + Partners and Richard Rogers, before turning to building motorbikes by hand in a Shoreditch garage, machining his own components rather than sourcing them ready made when he launched the brand in 2013. That habit of finishing the parts nobody checks properly is why this one is built to the same standard as the plate it eventually sits behind.

Is this the visible switch plate?
No. The back box is fitted into the wall and hidden once installed. The decorative plate and switch or dimmer module fix to the front of it separately.
How do I know if I need the plasterboard or solid wall version?
Check what's behind your wall surface first. This back box is for plasterboard and stud walls. For a solid wall such as plaster, brick or masonry, use the solid wall back box instead.
Do I need an electrician to fit this?
Yes. Fitting a back box means working with your wall's electrical wiring, so it should always be handled by a qualified electrician alongside the switch or socket installation.
