How It Works

An intermediate, or 3-way, toggle doesn't switch a light on or off on its own. It's wired between two ordinary 2-way switches on the same circuit so the light can be controlled from a third point, or more. Toggle any one of them and the whole circuit changes state. Rated 250V, 10A, 50Hz, for use between 0 and 35 degrees C.

Where It Works Best

Think staircases with a switch top and bottom and this one on the landing, hallways with doors at each end, or a room with more than two entrances. If your circuit really only needs two switching points, the simpler 2-way toggle in this collection will do the job.

Made By Buster + Punch

Founder Massimo Buster Minale trained as an architect, working at practices including Foster and Partners, before he swapped drawing boards for a garage in Shoreditch building motorbikes by hand. Buster + Punch grew out of that same instinct to machine parts properly rather than buy them off the shelf, which is why this toggle arm is solid metal, not moulded plastic. Linear Knurl is the newest pattern from that workshop, sitting alongside the original diamond cut Cross Knurl.

What's the difference between this and a normal on and off toggle?
A normal 2-way toggle switches a light on and off by itself. This intermediate version doesn't, it sits between two 2-way switches on the same circuit so the light can be controlled from a third location too.

Will the white finish age or mark over time?
It's built to stay consistent with normal use. As with any switch, wipe it with a dry, lint free cloth and avoid chemical cleaners to keep it looking right.

Do I need an electrician to fit this?
Yes, this is mains wiring and should be installed by a qualified electrician. The plate, module and toggle arm detail kit arrive separately for straightforward self assembly once it's wired in.
