One Toggle, Built for a Circuit With More Than Two Ends
This is the single gang intermediate toggle from Buster + Punch, finished entirely in steel with the new Linear Knurl detail, a run of fine straight ridges machined into the toggle arm. It's built for the lighting circuits that need a third, fourth or fifth switching point, not the simple on and off jobs.
Choose Your Finish
This one comes in a single, solid finish: steel plate, steel toggle arm, steel collar. There's no accent colour to pick here, it's one consistent look, cool and industrial. If you'd rather have a white plate, or want to see the finish options on the two and three way toggles in this collection, those sit alongside it in the Linear Knurl range.
How It Works
An intermediate switch, sometimes called a 3-way toggle, doesn't turn a light on and off by itself. It works alongside two ordinary 2-way switches on the same circuit, sitting between them so the light can be controlled from a third location, or a fourth if you add another. Flip any one of the toggles and the circuit changes state. Rated at 250V, 10A, 50Hz, and built for use between 0 and 35 degrees C.
Where It Works Best
Staircases are the classic use case, a switch at the bottom, one at the top, and this one on the landing between them. It also earns its place in long hallways with entrances at both ends and a middle door, or a large room with more than two ways in. If your circuit only needs two switching points, the 2-way toggle in this same collection is the simpler fit.
Made By Buster + Punch
Buster + Punch was started in 2013 by Massimo Buster Minale, an architect who'd worked at firms including Foster and Partners before he left to build motorbikes by hand in a garage in Shoreditch. That habit of machining every part himself, rather than buying it in, is why this toggle is solid steel rather than stamped metal or moulded plastic. The Linear Knurl pattern is the newest expression of that approach, a fine straight ridge machined into the arm instead of the original diamond cut Cross Knurl.

Questions People Ask
What does "intermediate" actually mean on a toggle switch?
It means this switch is designed to sit between two ordinary 2-way switches on the same lighting circuit, giving you a third place to turn the light on or off, such as a landing between a staircase's top and bottom switches.
How is the Linear Knurl different from the Cross Knurl version of this switch?
The plate, module and electrics are identical. The only difference is the pattern machined into the toggle arm, fine straight ridges here instead of the diamond cut cross pattern on the original.
Can I fit this on its own as a simple on and off switch?
No, an intermediate switch needs two 2-way switches on the same circuit to work correctly. If you only need one or two switching points, look at the 2-way toggle in this collection instead.
