This 1G intermediate toggle switch is machined entirely in brass, plate, toggle and collar all in the same warm metal, with Buster + Punch's diamond-cut cross knurl worked into the toggle. It's built for one specific job: switching a circuit from the middle position, between two other switches further along the same run.

This listing doesn't come with a choice of toggle colour, unlike the black, steel and white versions in the range. Plate, toggle and collar are all brass, so what you see in the photos is exactly what arrives, and it will only get warmer and more characterful with handling over time.

How It Works

Behind the plate sits a single toggle module wired as intermediate, also called 3-way, and rated at 10A. Where a circuit is switched from three or more points, such as a long landing or a room with two entrances, this is the module fitted in the middle, with ordinary two-way switches at either end. As with all hardwired Buster + Punch electrics, installation should always be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Where It Works Best

Fit it wherever one light needs switching from more than two places: a staircase with a half landing, a hallway that runs between a front and back door, or an open plan space with more than one route in. On its own it does nothing without two-way switches to complete the circuit.

This is the one intermediate toggle in the range offered only in brass, plate, toggle and collar all the same warm metal, with no alternate knob colour to pick. Founder Massimo Buster Minale trained as an architect at practices including Foster + Partners before spending his spare evenings hand building custom motorbikes in a Shoreditch garage, machining his own parts rather than sourcing them ready made, and brass was a metal he kept returning to for its weight. Buster + Punch launched in 2013 on that same appreciation for solid, uncut material rather than plating over steel.

Will the brass tarnish or change colour over time?
Yes, and this is expected. Solid brass darkens and develops a patina with handling and age. Wipe with a dry cloth to keep it clean, but avoid polishing it back to a mirror finish if you want the natural ageing to continue.

What does "intermediate" mean on this switch?
It means the switch is designed to sit between two other switches on the same circuit, used when a light needs to be controlled from three or more locations rather than just one or two.
