A Pendant Designed to Quieten the Room

The Noren S/85 takes its name from the layered Japanese fabric curtains that give it its softly folded look, but the resemblance runs deeper than the surface. Behind that felt toned face sits a genuine acoustic panel, built to absorb sound rather than just shade a bulb. At 850mm across, it works as a light fitting and a piece of noise control in one.

A Layered Build in Light Grey

Inside the aluminium frame, a layer of Basotect acoustic foam sits behind a fire resistant fabric face and an MDF backing plate. That combination is what does the actual work, sound waves get trapped and dampened in the foam rather than bouncing straight back off a hard surface. The Light Grey finish keeps the whole thing understated, a pale, neutral tone that reads as calm rather than corporate.

How It Works

Downlighting comes from an integrated LED rated at 14.4W and 2160 lumens in a warm 3000K white, with a CRI of 95 for accurate colour rendering. Choose the Up and Down Lighting version and a second LED adds 7W and 1040 lumens of uplight, bouncing light off the ceiling for a softer, more ambient spread. Both versions are Dali dimmable, so they can run on a proper lighting control system rather than a simple wall switch. The drop is adjustable from 1350mm to 3850mm, enough range to set the height for a low or a generous ceiling.

Where It Works Best

Its acoustic core makes it a natural fit for open plan offices, meeting rooms and other commercial spaces where hard surfaces send noise bouncing around. It works just as well in a busy residential kitchen, dining room or living space with wooden or tiled floors, anywhere the room could use a bit less echo alongside its light.

Bover was founded in Barcelona in 1996, when Joana Bover turned a sketch drawn for an architect friend into the start of a lighting brand. The company still designs and produces its lighting in Spain, working from Cardedeu near Barcelona. Outdoors, that means hand woven synthetic fibre pieces. Indoors, it means intricate wood lattice fixtures like the Dome family, built from over 170 individually woven beech strips. Across the range there is a distinctly Mediterranean design sensibility. Bover opened a subsidiary in Atlanta in 2012, bringing the brand to the US.

Questions People Ask

What is the difference between the Down Lighting and Up and Down Lighting versions?
The Down Lighting version has a single integrated LED facing downward. The Up and Down Lighting version adds a second LED sending light upward too, at 7W and 1040 lumens, for a softer spread bounced off the ceiling.

Does the Noren S/85 actually reduce noise, or is that just the design?
It genuinely absorbs sound. The Basotect acoustic foam and fire resistant fabric layered behind the face are the same kind of materials used in dedicated acoustic panels, so it works as noise control as well as a light source.

Can I dim the Noren S/85?
Yes, it is Dali dimmable, so it needs a Dali compatible dimming system rather than a standard wall dimmer.
