A Felt Disc That Quiets a Room

The Noren S/100 is a large round pendant, a metre across, built to dampen ambient noise as much as it lights a room. In Dark Grey, its flat circular form reads as a strong architectural statement overhead, while the felt construction inside works to absorb sound rather than let it bounce around a hard ceiling.

Layered to Absorb Sound

Behind the Dark Grey finish sits a build made for acoustic performance. An aluminium frame and MDF centre hold a core of Basotect sound absorbing foam, all wrapped in a fire resistant Crevin fabric shell. It is this layered construction, not just the shade shape, that gives the Noren S/100 its noise dampening effect.

How It Works

Choose between two versions. The Down Lighting model runs an integrated LED at 14.4W and 2160 lumens, aimed downward for general room lighting. The Up and Down Lighting model adds a second light source, 7W and 1040 lumens, that washes the ceiling above for a softer, ambient glow. Both run at a warm 3000K colour temperature with a high 95 CRI for accurate colour rendering, and both are DALI dimmable. The drop is adjustable from 1500mm to 4000mm, so it can be set for the ceiling height it is hanging in.

Where It Works Best

Its scale and acoustic properties suit offices, meeting rooms, restaurants and loft apartments, anywhere with hard surfaces and high ceilings where sound carries more than you would like. It works equally well as a single striking fitting or arranged in a group over a larger open plan space.

Bover began in Barcelona in 1996, when founder Joana Bover sketched a lighting idea for an architect friend's project. The brand still designs and produces its fittings in Spain, based in Cardedeu near Barcelona, and carries a Mediterranean design sensibility across a range that spans hand woven outdoor pieces and intricate wood lattice indoor fixtures like the Dome family. Bover opened a US subsidiary in Atlanta in 2012.
