A Compact Companion to Bover's Dome Family

The Domita S/20 shrinks the Dome collection's woven wood silhouette down to a size built for grouping. Thin slats of wood finished beech curve into a small dome around the light source, so it reads as a miniature version of Bover's larger lattice pendants rather than a plain shade.

Underneath the wood look, the frame is iron and aluminium, with the beech finish giving it the warm, textured surface the Dome family is known for. At just 200mm in diameter and 255mm tall, it's built to a scale that suits multiples rather than standing alone.

How It Works

The Domita S/20 takes a single GU10 LED bulb, up to 8W, so light diffuses gently through the woven slats rather than beaming out in one direction. It only dims if you fit a dimmable bulb, since the fitting itself has no built in dimming. The cable allows a drop of up to 2000mm from a small ceiling plate, so the height can be set to suit the space. Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting is installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Where It Works Best

Its small scale makes it a natural fit for grouping, in a cluster over a kitchen island, in a row above a dining table, or paired either side of a bed as bedside lighting. It also works well as a single accent pendant in a hallway where a larger fitting would feel too heavy.

Bover was founded in Barcelona in 1996 by Joana Bover, starting out as a sketch for an architect friend's project before growing into a full lighting brand. It's still designed and produced in Spain, based in Cardedeu near Barcelona, and is known for two very different techniques: hand woven synthetic fibre pieces for outdoor use and intricate wood lattice fittings for indoors, a family the Domita belongs to alongside the larger Dome pendants built from over 170 individually woven beech strips. The brand carries a Mediterranean design sensibility throughout, and opened a US subsidiary in Atlanta in 2012.
