TOOY Igor Horizontal Pendant Light

Where the Igor vertical pendant draws the eye downward and anchors a space with axial precision, the horizontal version does something different and in many ways more surprising. Suspended from the ceiling on a single central fixing, the fitting extends outward in both directions — a long, low horizontal form that occupies space with a lateral confidence that makes it one of the most architecturally distinctive pendants in the Tooy range.

Duccio Maria Gambi, whose Florence based design practice centres on the relationship between structure, material and time, conceived Igor as a fitting that could stand alone or be composed into clusters and configurations. The horizontal version makes that compositional potential immediately legible — a single piece has the quality of a ruled line drawn deliberately through a room, while two or three hung in a group at varying heights create a composition with genuine spatial complexity and depth.

Above a long dining table it is exceptional — the horizontal form tracking the length of the table below it and creating a quality of relationship between fitting and furniture that a conventional pendant, hovering above the centre point, cannot achieve. Above a kitchen island it brings a similar logic, the lateral spread of the diffuser matching the geometry of the surface below. In a double height space it can be hung at a level that brings human scale to a generous ceiling, the horizontal line creating a datum that makes the room feel both tall and inhabited at the same time.

The ripstop fabric diffuser produces a soft, warm, even light that spreads along the length of the fitting and falls gently into the space below. It is an ambient light of real quality — the kind that changes the character of a room rather than simply illuminating it.

Available in matte black or satin nickel. The satin nickel finish, at this scale and in this orientation, has a particular quality — the long horizontal form in a softly reflective metal catching the light from different directions as the day moves and creating a fitting that is genuinely alive as an object as well as a source of beautiful light.

Made to order at Tooy's Marche workshop, produced in Italy by a brand whose founding in 2015 drew directly on six decades of craft manufacturing knowledge and a commitment to material quality that shows clearly in everything the Igor collection is and does.
