TOOY Filipa Wall Light

The Filipa wall light asks a question that not many fittings bother with: what happens when you take a form that has always existed in free space and bring it to the wall? Corrado Dotti's answer for Tooy is considered and entirely satisfying. The double sphere of borosilicate glass that defines the Filipa collection is mounted on a wall arm that holds it just far enough from the surface to allow the light to radiate freely, the glass glowing warmly against the wall plane and creating a quality of illumination that is both focused and diffuse at the same time.

As a bedside light it is exceptional — the soft, omnidirectional quality of the borosilicate glass means there is no harsh edge to the light, no uncomfortable glare, just a warm and even glow that makes reading comfortable and the room around you feel calm. Flanking a mirror in a bathroom or dressing room it provides the kind of face level light that overhead fittings can rarely achieve. In a living room or dining room it adds a layer of warmth to the walls that changes the character of the space entirely after dark.

The wall light is available in sand black with sand grey metal detailing or sand black with two tone leather, the same thoughtful material choices that run through the Filipa collection as a whole. The leather version, in particular, has a quality of finish that makes the fitting feel less like a product and more like a considered object — something chosen rather than simply specified.
