A Glass Lantern Pendant Inspired by Chinese Lanterns
The Tooy Filipa Suspension Pendant Light is designed by Corrado Dotti and reinterprets the traditional Chinese lantern in a modern way. A 16cm glass diffuser sits inside a light, open metal frame approximately 28cm wide and 45cm high, hung from a 150cm black fabric cable. It makes a small, elegant pendant light for a bedside, hallway or dining table.
Sand Black with Sand Grey or Two Tone Leather
Sand Black with Sand Grey is the cleaner, more graphic option, with a powder coated frame in two soft, matt tones. Sand Black with Two Tone Leather adds a tactile leather accent to the frame, which brings warmth and a slightly more crafted feel. The glass diffuser is the same in both.
How it works
The pendant has two light sources. A G9 lamp holder takes a bulb of up to 5W, which is not supplied, and a 4W integrated LED at 2700K is built in. The pendant is dimmable if a dimmable bulb is used. It hangs from a ceiling fixing on the 150cm cable. A qualified electrician should always install this fitting.
Where it works best
Filipa suits places where you want a soft glow rather than strong overhead light. Try one on each side of a bed, a pair above a bedside table, or a group over a dining table. It is rated IP40, so it is for dry indoor rooms only.
The story behind Tooy
Tooy was founded in Italy's Marche region in 2015 by Valeria Giacomozzi and Valerio Tidei, as a spin off from Gibas, the Giacomozzi family lighting company that has made tailor made lighting in Marche since 1959. Filipa comes from Corrado Dotti, who trained with Matteo Thun and then Armani Casa before opening his own studio in 2009, and who has been Tooy's creative director since 2017. The brand's lamps are made in Italy.
