TOOY Filipa Suspension Pendant Light

The Chinese lantern is one of the oldest and most enduring forms in decorative lighting — a globe of light suspended in space, radiating warmth in every direction. Corrado Dotti's Filipa collection for Tooy takes that ancient form and refines it into something entirely contemporary, replacing paper and bamboo with borosilicate glass and precision metalwork, and arriving at a fitting that feels both deeply familiar and completely fresh.

The suspension pendant is the purest expression of the Filipa concept. A double sphere of borosilicate glass sits at the centre of the composition, the glass itself a material of exceptional clarity and consistency — heat resistant, dimensionally stable, and with an optical quality that gives the light it contains a particular luminosity. The metal structure that holds and frames the glass is finished in sand black with either sand grey metal or two tone leather detailing, each option producing a distinctly different character within the same essential form.

The sand grey metal version is clean and architectural, the tonal relationship between the black and grey giving the fitting a restrained sophistication that works beautifully in contemporary interiors. The two tone leather version introduces a tactile warmth and a quiet luxury that elevates the fitting into something more personal — a choice for spaces where materiality and detail are the point.

Light from the Filipa pendant is soft, diffuse and thoroughly warm, the borosilicate glass spreading illumination evenly in all directions. Above a dining table it creates an intimate, gathered quality. In a sitting room or bedroom it produces exactly the kind of ambient light that makes a space feel genuinely at ease. Made to order in Tooy's workshop in the Marche region of Italy, where the craft traditions of the Giacomozzi family, established through Gibas since 1959, ensure that every detail of the Filipa is executed with the precision the design demands.
