A task light that grips rather than stands

The Topo Clamp Table Lamp in chrome is a task light that attaches to the edge of a desk, shelf or bookcase with a sprung clamp, rather than needing a base or foot of its own.

Chrome finish

Joe Colombo drew the shell's slits from the cooling vents cut into 1960s sports car bonnets, and shaped the shade to wrap around its E27 bulb the way a bonnet closes over an engine. Cast in bright chrome, the whole piece has a cool, machined quality that catches the light along every seam.

How it works

Two jointed sections give it real flexibility: pull the head in close and angle it down for reading or close work, or extend it out and tilt it upward for a softer wash of light.

Where it works best

On a desk in a home office or study, that adjustability counts for a lot, and the clamp fitting keeps the surface beneath it clear.

The story behind Stilnovo

Stilnovo was founded in Milan in 1946 by Bruno Gatta, and later collaborations with designers like Joe Colombo brought pieces such as Topo into the catalogue.
