Stilnovo Saliscendi Pendant - Grass Green

A cable operated classic, brought up to date

The Saliscendi Pendant in Grass Green is a rise and fall ceiling light: a glossy green metal lamp body and a matching reflective disc ride along a pair of cables, drawing apart for softer, indirect light or coming together for a brighter, more direct pool beneath.

Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni first designed the Saliscendi in 1957, building two unique examples the following year for the Milan Chamber of Commerce. Its two tone PMMA diffuser is white within and lacquered grass green on the outside to match the body.

How it works

This version carries the same idea forward with a dimmable LED engine in place of the original lamp. The lift mechanism, a metal wire casing running over acetal resin pulleys, still does the work of raising and lowering the fitting by hand.

Where it works best

A 36W integrated LED with DALI push dimming means it can sit low and bright over a kitchen island or lifted and dimmed above a dining table.

The story behind Stilnovo

Stilnovo has been making Italian lighting since 1946, when Bruno Gatta founded the company in Milan during the country's post war rebuilding, and that same care for precise lacquer work and assembly carries through to this reissue.
