Sixteen Globes, Never the Same Twice
The Orion Oval in Dries Ribbon glass is the most textural version of the family's largest chandelier. Sixteen globes, each carrying its own hand worked ribbons of glass, arranged in an oval and hung from a solid brass frame on adjustable extension rods, so it can be fitted as a full chandelier with drop or sat close to the ceiling as a flush light.
In Dries Ribbon Glass
Dries Ribbon glass is worked during blowing so that fine internal ribbons of texture run through the surface of the glass, scattering light unevenly rather than diffusing it flat. Across sixteen globes, the cumulative effect is a chandelier that never quite settles into a single, uniform glow, each sphere catching and throwing light slightly differently to its neighbour as the bulbs warm up.
Choose Your Finish
Available in Black Gunmetal, Lacquered Burnished Brass, or Polished Nickel, all hand finished in Poland. Lacquered Burnished Brass tends to suit the warmth of Dries Ribbon glass particularly well, while Black Gunmetal and Polished Nickel give the fitting a more contemporary, graphic edge.
How It Works
Sixteen E14 sockets each take a 5W LED bulb, included as standard, producing around 8000 lumens combined at 2700K and roughly 80W total, and the fitting is dimmable with a compatible low voltage electronic dimmer. It measures approximately 155cm wide, 105cm deep and 56cm high, with each globe 20cm in diameter, and comes with three extension rods of around 15cm, 30cm and 45cm for a maximum overall height near 131cm. Complete it weighs approximately 26.6kg, so additional ceiling support is recommended before fitting. No IP rating is published, so this is intended for dry indoor rooms.
Where It Works Best
Given its scale and the complexity of the Dries Ribbon glass, this suits a room where the fitting is meant to be the main event, a formal dining room, a hotel or restaurant dining space, or a large open plan living area with the ceiling height to show it off. As a flush fitting it still carries real texture and interest even without the drop, for rooms where a full chandelier hang is not practical.
Made by Schwung
Schwung was founded in 2014 in Namysłów, Poland, by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen. Schwung describes Dries Ribbon as the most demanding of its three glass techniques to produce, requiring glassblowers with considerable experience to introduce the ribboned texture consistently across a run of sixteen globes.
