Six Ribbed Clear Globes That Scatter the Light
The Schwung Orion Mix 6 Light Chandelier/Flush in Dries Ribbon Glass is the most decorative of the three Orion Mix versions. Its six globes, three of 200mm and three of 150mm, are blown in clear borosilicate glass with fine vertical ribs, so the bulb inside each one is visible and the ribs throw a radiating pattern of light and shadow onto the ceiling and walls. Hung on its rods it is a compact chandelier; fixed close to the ceiling it is a flush light. It measures 603mm across and can drop from 288mm to around 1270mm, so please check your ceiling height before ordering.
Dries Ribbon Glass and Your Choice of Finish
Dries ribbon glass is Schwung's clear, ribbed glass, named after the fine drawn ribs that run from top to bottom of each globe. Because the glass is transparent, you see the filament style LED and the brass holder inside, and the ribs refract the light into crisp lines. It is the choice for sparkle rather than softness. The frame comes in:
- Lacquered Burnished Brass, warm aged brass that glows through the clear glass, as shown in the photographs
- Black Gunmetal, a deep charcoal black that reads as dark lines inside each globe
- Polished Nickel, a bright silver for a cooler, crisper effect
Hand applied finishes vary in tone from piece to piece, and the ribbed glass looks noticeably different lit and unlit, as the on and off photographs show.
How It Works
Two Globe Sizes
The 200mm and 150mm globes alternate around the central brass hub, giving the fitting a looser, more natural outline than the matched globes of the standard Orion rings.
Chandelier or Flush
Three extension rods of 150mm, 300mm and 450mm are supplied, with a 140mm canopy that is compatible with vaulted ceilings. Fixed directly to the ceiling the body is 288mm deep; on the rods it hangs at around 436mm, 736mm or 1186mm, or approximately 530mm, 820mm and 1270mm using the vaulted ceiling canopy.
Light Output
Six 4 to 5W E14 LED bulbs are included, giving around 1320 lumens at a warm 2200K to 3000K. Because the glass is clear, the look of the fitting depends on the bulb, so when replacing use a decorative E14 lamp up to 10W. Dimming is with electronic ELV or trailing edge dimmers only.
We recommend that this fitting is installed by a qualified electrician.
Where It Works Best
The ribbon glass Orion Mix earns its place where you want the light itself to be the decoration: over a dining table, in an entrance hall, or flush mounted in an alcove or arched recess as in Schwung's own photograph. The pattern it casts on a plain painted ceiling is part of the effect, so it rewards a simple backdrop. Because the bulbs are visible it is best dimmed for evening use.
Made By Schwung
Dries ribbon glass is named within Schwung's range for its fine drawn ribs and is one of the brand's three signature glass types, alongside opal matte and marble matte. Schwung was founded by Rudi Nijssen, a former antiques dealer, and Dominique Sente, a former goldsmith, and makes its glass and solid brass lighting by hand in its own workshop in Poland.

Questions People Ask
Can you see the bulbs through the Dries ribbon glass?
Yes. The glass is clear, so the LED bulb and brass holder are visible inside each globe and the ribs scatter the light into a pattern. If you want the bulb hidden, choose the Opal Mat or Marble glass version instead.
How big is the Orion Mix?
It is 603mm across and weighs 7kg. Fixed to the ceiling it is 288mm deep; on the included rods it hangs at roughly 436mm, 736mm or 1186mm, a little more with the vaulted ceiling canopy.
Can it be fitted flush to the ceiling?
Yes. Leave the rods off and the body sits 288mm below the ceiling; Schwung sells it as both a flush mount and a chandelier.
Will it work on a sloping ceiling?
Yes. The 140mm canopy is designed to be compatible with vaulted ceilings.
Is it dimmable?
Yes, with an electronic ELV or trailing edge dimmer only. Dimming also softens the visible bulbs for evening use.
Who should install it?
We recommend that this mains voltage fitting is installed by a qualified electrician.
