A Softer, Aged Gold Under Pressed Glass
Weathered brass takes the same pressed prismatic dome as the rest of the Mantle range and sets it inside a softer, antique gold frame, with a deliberately aged finish rather than a bright polish. It has a warmer, more lived in look than the nickel version, closer to old brass that has been handled and polished over years rather than fresh off the shelf.
Weathered Brass, One of Three Finishes
This weathered brass finish has a soft antique gold tone with a slightly muted surface, sitting between the bright shine of polished nickel and the darker tone of Palladian bronze in the same family. All three share the identical dome, dimensions and bulb setup, so weathered brass is really a statement finish choice for anyone wanting a warmer, older feeling metal without going as dark as bronze.
How It Works
Two E27 bulbs sit inside the pressed glass dome, held on a central stem with three curved brass arms that keep the fitting close to the ceiling. Bulbs are not supplied, so choose your own, and fit dimmable bulbs if you want to dim the light using a compatible switch. It is a Class I fitting, so it requires an earth connection, and being hardwired it should always be fitted by a qualified electrician. The dome fixes to the frame with small screws around the rim, so there is a brief final assembly step once it arrives.
Where It Works Best
At 24.6cm high and 32.7cm across, Mantle sits close to the ceiling, which suits kitchens, hallways and dining rooms with standard or slightly lower ceiling heights. The weathered brass tone here works particularly well against white shaker cabinetry, painted panelling or dark wood, where a bright nickel finish might feel too sharp. It reads as the warmest and most traditional of the three finishes, so it suits rooms already built around brass or aged metal hardware.
Quoizel's Story
Quoizel began in 1930 as a small lamp company in Manhattan, and its very first products were oil burning hurricane lamps rather than anything electric, including the Abigail Adams lamp, which stayed in the catalogue for decades after it was introduced. As homes were wired for electricity, Quoizel moved into hardwired chandeliers, pendants and ceiling fittings like this one, carrying the same attention to finish and detail from those early oil lamps into modern lighting.
