Twisted Petals Held Close to the Ceiling
A shallow steel dish, a ring of flat straps twisted into leaves beneath it, and two bulbs sitting in plain view. That is the whole of it. Thirty three centimetres across and just under fourteen deep, so it reads as decoration rather than as a box stuck on the ceiling.
Antique White Up Close
The name promises clean white and the photographs show something else. The paint is a warm off white, laid on with the brush marks left visible, then rubbed back along every rim and fold until a soft brown comes through. You can see it clearly on the outer edge of the dish and on the tip of each leaf. That browning is the point, and it is what keeps the fitting from looking freshly made. The other choice in this size is Grey Ash, a dark speckled charcoal. Pick Antique White if your ceiling is pale and you would rather the fitting settle into it quietly.
How It Works
Two E14 lampholders sit on a short bar that hangs from the centre of the dish, low enough that both lamps are visible from below. Light goes two ways: down through the gaps between the leaves, and up into the pale interior of the bowl, which bounces a softer wash back into the room. There is no glass and no diffuser, so whatever bulb you fit becomes part of the design. Bulbs are not supplied. It will dim, but only if the lamps you put in it are dimmable ones. As a Class I fitting it needs an earth connection at the ceiling, and the wiring is a job for a qualified electrician.
Where It Works Best
Anywhere the ceiling is too low to hang something. At 13.9cm deep it stays clear of a tall head in a hallway, a small bedroom or a landing. The same Bradbury design scales up a long way: there is a four light pendant at 40.5cm diameter and a five light chandelier at 63.6cm, both on an adjustable drop and both needing proper height above a table. This flush version and the matching two light wall light are the two that suit an ordinary ceiling in an ordinary room. Down a long hallway, two of these spaced out will do more than one in the middle.
Made By Quoizel
Quoizel started in Manhattan in 1930, when Michael Chaikin set up a small lamp company whose first trade was hurricane lamps that burned oil rather than electricity. One of those early pieces, the Abigail Adams lamp, stayed in the catalogue for decades after the oil lit years had passed. Something of that habit survives in a fitting like this one, where the metalwork is the entire design and the bulb is left on show rather than hidden behind a shade.

Questions People Ask
How far does it hang below the ceiling? 13.9cm, and it spreads 33cm across. Shallow enough for a hallway or a low bedroom ceiling where a pendant would be in the way.
Which bulbs should I buy? Two E14 small screw lamps, and they are not included. The photographs show clear filament globes, which suit the open frame because the bulbs are visible from below. Warm white sits better with the pale paint than a cool tone.
Is it suitable for a bathroom? No IP rating is published for this fitting, so treat it as one for dry rooms only and keep it out of bathrooms and shower rooms.
