Quintiesse Twyla 1 Light Pendant - Black

Twyla brings a relaxed, coastal warmth to ceiling lighting, its drum shade hand woven from natural rattan around a slender steel frame. The open weave lets light escape in soft, dappled patterns rather than a single hard beam, giving the fitting a gentle, textural presence that works equally well as a single statement pendant or repeated in a row above a longer table.

The black finish

Here the steel frame and gallery are finished in black, a quietly grounding contrast to the pale, natural tone of the rattan shade. It reads as a modern, slightly graphic take on the coastal look, at home in schemes built around timber, linen and warm neutrals, or wherever you want the shade's texture to stand out against a darker structure. The black hardware also tends to disappear visually, letting the woven form take the attention.

How it works

Twyla takes a single E27 bulb rated up to 40W, and as with all our pendants, the bulb itself is not supplied. It will dim, but only if you fit dimmable bulbs, standard bulbs will not dim even on a dimmer circuit. The pendant is Class I, so it needs an earthed electrical supply and should be installed by a qualified electrician. The cable is adjustable, giving a drop of between roughly 57.7cm and 179.7cm, so it can be set to suit the ceiling height and the clearance you want above a table or floor.

Where it works best

With its warm, informal character, Twyla suits dining rooms, kitchens, living rooms and bedrooms alike, anywhere you want ambient light with a handmade feel rather than a bright, task focused glow. Because the drop is adjustable across a wide range, it works both in rooms with standard ceiling heights and in taller spaces such as open plan kitchens or stairwells, where you can set the shade at exactly the right height above the space below.

Quintiesse craftsmanship

Quintiesse, a premium brand within the Elstead Lighting Group, describes many of its finishes and materials as drawing on artisan techniques, and the hand woven rattan shade on Twyla is a good example of that approach. Quintiesse states that products like this go through prototyping, batch inspection and quality sign off before release, so the weave and finish are checked before the fitting reaches you.
