The Blacksmith single pendant condenses the collection's signature ironwork into a compact, single lantern fitting, the kind of light that earns its place beside a front door or over a step without ever feeling heavy handed. Its curved, orb shaped cage is built from spiralling steel that catches the light differently from every angle, giving what is essentially a simple porch lantern a genuinely sculptural presence.
The old black finish
Quintiesse's old black finish is not a flat black. Look closely and there are accents of charcoal and dark silver worked through the ironwork, a smoke like effect that keeps the surface from ever looking uniform. Inside the cage sits a cylindrical shade in opal etched glass, which softens and spreads the light rather than letting it glare through the ironwork. The finish reads well against brick, painted render or natural stone, and ages honestly rather than looking dated.
How it works
The pendant takes a single E27 LED bulb, which is not supplied. Dimming will only work if you fit a dimmable bulb. The drop is adjustable from around 39.1cm to 287.3cm, so it can be set close to a low porch ceiling or hung lower where there's more headroom. The fitting is rated IP44.
Where it works best
At 3.6kg this is a light fitting rather than a heavy one, so it suits porches, covered entrances and sheltered garden doorways where you want a single, well defined pool of light rather than a wide spread. It also works nicely positioned over a kitchen door leading out to a garden or terrace, marking the transition between indoors and out.
