Red Iron: Earthy Warmth in a Wide Ceramic Pendant

The Seville Pendant in Red Iron is a 15.5cm tall, 28cm wide handmade ceramic pendant with the warm, earthy intensity of the red iron finish in the broad, generous form of the Seville range. At 28cm wide the iron tones ranging from warm terracotta through to deeper rust and ochre have genuine room to show their warmth and complexity. The finish is applied by hand at Mullan Village and fixed through firing, with natural variation preserved from piece to piece. No two shades come out of the kiln looking identical. In the evening with a warm E27 bulb the red iron tones deepen and enrich, creating an atmosphere above the dining table that makes a meal feel like an occasion.

How It Works

The open ceramic shade faces downward, directing the E27 bulb's light into the room. The 28cm diameter creates a broad, generous pool of warm light below. The red iron tones respond most beautifully to warm, lower evening light. A warm white dimmable E27 LED is strongly recommended.

The Red Iron Seville Pendant is made for above a large dining table or a generous kitchen island where its broad form and earthy warmth creates a focal point that makes the room feel genuinely designed. It pairs particularly well with antique brass, aged timber, terracotta tiles, dark stone and warm woven textiles.

The Story Behind Mullan

Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the red iron finish in direct response to the iron rich soils and weathered stone of the County Monaghan landscape. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

FAQs

What bulb does the Seville Pendant take?
It takes a standard E27 screw fit bulb, maximum 40W. Bulb not included. A warm white LED E27 is strongly recommended. The warmer the colour temperature, the richer the red iron tones appear in the evening.

Will my pendant look exactly like the photo?
Close but not identical. The red iron finish is hand applied and fired so depth of colour and surface texture vary naturally between pieces.

Is this suitable for a bathroom?
The Seville Pendant is IP20 rated and suitable for dry indoor areas only. It is not certified for bathroom wet zones.

Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.

Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
