The Savannah Large Pendant Shapes Rattan Into a Bell
Rather than the usual dome or drum, the Savannah Large Pendant flares outward into a distinct bell shape, standing 20cm high with a 34.5cm wide rattan shade. The flare gives the natural weave a more sculptural profile than a straight sided shade, widening toward the base so the piece reads as a genuine design statement rather than a plain fitting. It comes with 1m of cable for hanging at the height you need.
How It Works
Because the shade flares out at the bottom, light from the single E27 bulb spreads wider as it leaves the fitting than it would from a straight walled shade, casting a broader pool below while still letting light escape through the weave at the sides. The bulb is not included, and the fitting is dimmable with a dimmable bulb, so you can move between a bright focal light and a softer background glow.
Where It Works Best
The bell profile and 34.5cm width suit a dining table where you want a clear pool of light below, or a kitchen island where the flared shape adds visual interest above the worktop. It also works well as a single striking fitting over a console table or in a bay window.
The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting traces back to 2009, when architect Mike Treanor restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan, Ireland, and began making lighting there. The studio has since grown to more than 100 craftspeople and now exports to over 55 countries. The Savannah range, with its bell shaped rattan shades, is part of the studio's continuing work with natural, sustainable and biodegradable materials.
