The Rivale Table Lamp in Red Iron is a compact 13cm tall, 21cm wide handmade ceramic table lamp with the warm, earthy intensity of the red iron finish. The iron tones ranging from warm terracotta at the surface through to deeper rust and ochre within the glaze are hand applied at Mullan Village and fixed through firing, with natural variation preserved from piece to piece. No two shades come out of the kiln looking identical. The lamp faces outward and slightly downward, concentrating the warm G9 glow onto the surface below, the red iron tones deepening and enriching in the evening as the light quality around them changes.

How It Works

The G9 lamp sits directly within the ceramic shade, directing warm light onto the surface below and outward into the room. The red iron tones respond most beautifully to warm spectrum LED bulbs. A warm white dimmable G9 LED is strongly recommended to bring out the full depth and richness of the red iron finish in the evening.

The Red Iron Rivale Table Lamp is a natural on a bedside table in a bedroom with earthy tones, natural timber and warm textiles. It works equally well on a console table in a hallway, a side table in a living room or a reading corner where warmth and material character at surface level are valued. The red iron finish pairs particularly well with antique brass, aged timber, terracotta, dark stone and warm woven textiles.

The Story Behind Mullan

Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the red iron finish in direct response to the iron rich soils and weathered stone of the County Monaghan landscape. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass. The studio distributes to more than 55 countries.

Will my lamp look exactly like the photo?
Close but not identical. The red iron finish is hand applied and fired so depth of colour and surface texture vary naturally between pieces.

Is this suitable for a bathroom?
