The Rivale in Matte White Striped is the most graphic and versatile finish in the range. The matte white ground and fine hand-painted stripes give it a precision that reads as contemporary in minimal interiors and quietly considered in more traditional ones. Paired with your choice of clear, frosted or opal glass, it becomes a pendant that works across more interior styles than almost any other piece in the Mullan collection. And because every shade is painted by hand at Mullan Village, the striping carries a natural variation that a factory-produced fitting could never replicate.
How It Works
The G9 lamp sits inside the glass shade, and your choice of glass determines how the light behaves in the room. Clear glass produces a defined, focused pool of light below the pendant with the striped ceramic clearly visible from all angles. Frosted glass softens and diffuses the light, reducing glare and warming the atmosphere. Opal glass gives the most even glow and disguises the bulb entirely, making the ceramic shade itself the main visual feature. In all three cases the matte white striped surface catches the light cleanly at the edges, adding a brightness and crispness that darker finishes do not offer.

The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. The studio now employs over 100 craftspeople and exports to more than 55 countries. The matte white striped finish reflects the bleached stone and whitewashed plaster found throughout the historic buildings surrounding the village, and every shade is formed, painted and fired on site. Made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

Which glass works best with the Matte White Striped finish?
Clear glass makes the striped pattern most visible and gives the sharpest light quality below — a good choice for a kitchen island or dining table. Opal glass softens the look entirely and makes the pendant feel more like a glowing object than a light source, which works well in bedrooms and living rooms. Frosted is a natural middle ground for most situations.
Will the stripes be perfectly even?
No, and that is intentional. The stripes are hand painted, which means there is a natural variation in width and spacing that distinguishes this from anything printed or mass-produced. The overall effect is crisp and graphic, but up close you can see it was made by a person.
Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. The Rivale works with dimmable G9 LED bulbs — just make sure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.
How long will delivery take?

Yes — returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Please contact us to arrange.
