Marbled Ceramic and Glass — A Wall Light With Genuine Visual Depth
The Rivale Wall Light in Marbled finish is the only wall light in the Rivale range, and it brings the same layered, hand-painted marbled ceramic quality as the rest of the collection to a side-mounted fitting. The swirling tones of cream, warm grey and natural stone are applied individually at Mullan Village before firing, which means no two pieces carry an identical pattern. The shade faces outward and slightly downward, diffusing or directing the light depending on your choice of clear, frost or opal glass — three meaningfully different results from one beautifully made ceramic body.
How It Works
The G9 lamp sits inside the glass shade. Clear glass gives the most defined, directional light — good for task lighting beside a mirror or either side of a bed where you want the light to fall on a specific area. Frost glass softens the spread and reduces glare, creating a warmer ambient wash across the wall and room. Opal glass gives the most even diffused glow and makes the ceramic shade itself the main visual feature, the marbled tones reading beautifully against the soft white glow of the lit glass. At 21cm diameter and 15.5cm projection from the wall, the fitting has real presence while remaining proportional in most rooms.
Where It Works Best
The Rivale Wall Light is well suited to bedrooms as a bedside alternative to table lamps — freeing up surface space while adding a considered, handmade quality to the wall. In a hallway or living room it adds visual warmth and depth at exactly the right height to be noticed up close. In a dining room used as a pair it creates a warm, layered atmosphere alongside overhead lighting. The marbled finish pairs well with natural stone, warm timber, aged brass and soft neutral textiles, and its timeless quality means it will not be displaced by changing trends.
The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the marbling technique by drawing on the layered stone and mineral textures of the Irish landscape surrounding the village. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass. The studio distributes to more than 55 countries.

Which glass works best with the Marbled finish?
Clear glass gives the most directional, defined light and keeps the marbled ceramic clearly visible from the front — good for task lighting beside a mirror or bed. Opal glass turns the shade into a gently glowing object and lets the marbled tones sit beautifully against the diffused white, which suits bedrooms and living rooms where ambience is the priority. Frost sits between the two.
Will my wall light look exactly like the photo?
The marbling is hand painted so the pattern on your piece will differ from the photos. The tones — cream, warm grey and natural stone — will be consistent, but the distribution and character of the marbling is unique to every piece fired at Mullan Village.
Is this suitable for a bathroom?
The Rivale Wall Light is IP20 rated and suitable for dry indoor areas only — not certified for bathroom wet zones. Please contact us if you need a bathroom-rated wall light and we will advise on alternatives in the Mullan range.
Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable G9 LED bulbs — ensure your dimmer switch is also rated for LED use. Bulb not included.
Can I return it?
Yes — returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Please contact us to arrange.
