The Mullan Rivale Ceiling Light in Red Iron is a flush ceramic and glass ceiling fitting with the earthy warmth and expressive character of the red iron finish, paired with a choice of glass shade that brings additional light quality and visual refinement to the fitting. The ceramic shade is formed and hand painted at the studio in Mullan Village, County Monaghan, Ireland, with the iron tones ranging from warm terracotta through to deeper rust and ochre across the glazed surface. Paired with clear, frosted or opal glass, the Rivale Red Iron becomes a ceiling fitting whose warmth and material depth are balanced by the cleaner, more refined quality that the glass shade introduces.
Mullan Lighting was established in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor inside a restored 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the red iron finish as a direct reflection of the iron rich soils and weathered stone of County Monaghan, and the Rivale ceiling light pairs this quality with glass to create a flush fitting with greater visual complexity than the ceramic shade alone. The studio employs over 100 craftspeople, makes every piece to order, and exports to more than 55 countries.
The Rivale Red Iron ceiling light is a warm and characterful choice for dining rooms, kitchens and bedrooms where the earthy tones of the finish bring depth and warmth to the ceiling plane. The glass shade options allow you to adjust the light quality from more directed to more diffused depending on the room's needs. The red iron finish pairs well with antique brass, dark timber, terracotta and warm natural material palettes.
