The Rivale Ceiling Light in Matte White Striped is the most adaptable finish in the ceiling range. The matte white ground and fine hand-painted stripes give it a graphic precision that works in contemporary minimal interiors and sits equally well in more traditional or eclectic spaces. Mounted close to the ceiling, it is the fitting for rooms where a pendant drop is not practical but where a plain white shade would feel like a missed opportunity. Paired with clear, frosted or opal glass it gives you real choice over the quality of light in the room.
How It Works
The G9 lamp sits inside the glass shade. Clear glass gives a focused downward pool of light with the striped ceramic clearly visible from the side — the cleanest and most graphic option. Frosted glass softens and diffuses the light into a warmer ambient spread. Opal glass gives the most even glow and conceals the bulb completely, letting the striped ceramic shade read as a quietly glowing object against the ceiling. The matte white surface reflects light cleanly at the edges in all three cases, brightening the immediate ceiling area without any harsh reflection.

The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. The matte white striped finish reflects the bleached stone and whitewashed plaster of the historic buildings surrounding the village. Every shade is formed, painted by hand and fired on site at the studio, which employs over 100 craftspeople and exports to more than 55 countries. Made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

Which glass works best with the Matte White Striped finish?
Clear glass is the crispest option — the striped ceramic reads clearly from the side and the downward light is direct and defined. Opal glass softens the whole fitting into an even glow and suits bedrooms and living rooms where ambience is the priority. Frosted is a reliable middle ground for most spaces.
Will the stripes be perfectly even?
No, and that is intentional. The stripes are hand painted, which means there is natural variation in width and spacing that sets this apart from anything printed or machine applied. The overall impression is clean and graphic, but close up you can see it was made by hand.
Is this suitable for a bathroom?
The Rivale Ceiling Light is IP20 rated and suitable for dry indoor areas only — not certified for bathroom wet zones. Please contact us if you need a bathroom-rated version and we will advise.
Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable G9 LED bulbs — just make sure your dimmer switch is also rated for LED. Bulb not included.

Yes — returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Please contact us to arrange.
