Red Iron and IP44: Earthy Warmth in a Tall Bathroom Pendant

The Parva Pendant in Red Iron is a 30cm tall, 14cm wide IP44 rated bathroom pendant with the warm, earthy intensity of the red iron ceramic finish in a tall, upright architectural form. A glass diffuser provides the IP44 certification while the red iron ceramic body does the visual work above it. The iron tones ranging from warm terracotta through to deeper rust and ochre are applied by hand at Mullan Village and fixed through firing, with natural variation preserved from piece to piece. With a warm E27 bulb in the evening the red iron tones deepen and enrich, creating genuine atmosphere above the bath.

How It Works

The glass diffuser at the base provides IP44 compliance and distributes the E27 bulb's light downward and outward into the bathroom. The tall red iron ceramic body sits above, the earthy tones deepening and enriching in warm evening light. A warm white dimmable E27 LED is strongly recommended.

Above a freestanding bath in a bathroom with natural stone, aged timber and antique brass tapware the Red Iron Parva creates an atmosphere of earthy luxury. In a shower room or wet room it brings warmth and handmade character to a practical space. The red iron finish pairs particularly well with natural stone, terracotta, aged timber and warm metal tapware.

The Story Behind Mullan

Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the red iron finish in direct response to the iron rich soils and weathered stone of the County Monaghan landscape. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

FAQs

Which bathroom zone is this rated for?
The Parva Pendant is IP44 rated for Zone 2, the area beyond 0.6m from the edge of a bath or shower. It is not suitable for Zone 0 or Zone 1.

Will my pendant look exactly like the photo?
Close but not identical. The red iron finish is hand applied and fired so depth of colour and surface texture vary naturally between pieces.

What bulb does this take?
E27 screw fit, maximum 6.5W. Bulb not included. A warm white dimmable LED E27 is recommended.

Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.

Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
