Blue Earth: Natural Colour in a Slender Wall Fitting

The Osier Wall Light in Blue Earth is a 31cm tall, 12cm wide handmade ceramic wall fitting with the slender, upright character of the Osier range and the layered teal and ocean tones of the blue earth finish. At 12cm wide it reads as a more architectural object on the wall than conventional wall lights, the blue earth colour adding natural warmth and depth to a wall at exactly the level where it can be properly appreciated up close. The colour is applied by hand at Mullan Village before firing, building up differently across every individual piece. In natural daylight the blue earth reads as cool and aquatic. With a warm E27 bulb in the evening the deeper blues and greens within the glaze come forward.

How It Works

The open ceramic shade faces outward and slightly downward, directing the E27 bulb's warm light across the wall and into the room. The blue earth tones shift as the quality of light around them changes through the day. A warm white dimmable E27 LED is recommended to bring out the richer tones in the evening.

Where It Works Best

The Blue Earth Osier Wall Light suits bedrooms, bathrooms adjacent to dry zones, hallways and living rooms where natural colour on a wall is wanted in a slender, architectural form. It pairs well as a pair either side of a bed or mirror, the 12cm width making it effective even in narrower spaces. It pairs particularly well with natural stone, pale timber, limewash plaster and warm neutral walls.

The Story Behind Mullan

Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the blue earth finish as a translation of the blues and greens of the Irish landscape into a hand painted ceramic glaze. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

FAQs

What bulb does the Osier Wall Light take?
It takes a standard E27 screw fit bulb, maximum 40W. Bulb not included. A warm white LED E27 is recommended.

Will the colour look exactly like the photos?
The blue earth finish is hand applied in layers so the exact depth and distribution of colour varies naturally between pieces.

Is this suitable for a bathroom?
The Osier Wall Light is IP20 rated and suitable for dry indoor areas only. It is not certified for bathroom wet zones.

Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.

Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
