The Osier Wall Light in Black Clay is a 31cm tall, 12cm wide handmade ceramic wall fitting with the slender, upright character that distinguishes the Osier range from the broader Bog Oak and Kapok forms. The black clay finish is applied by hand at Mullan Village, County Monaghan, and fired on site, preserving the natural surface texture and variation of the clay. At 12cm wide it reads as a more architectural, sculptural object on the wall than conventional wall lights, with the deep matte black surface adding material depth and gravity to whatever surface it occupies.

How It Works

The open ceramic shade faces outward and slightly downward, directing the E27 bulb's warm light across the wall and into the room. The black clay body absorbs rather than reflects, creating a warm, focused pool of light at wall level. A warm white dimmable E27 LED suits the black clay finish well, lower light levels in the evening bringing out the natural texture of the ceramic surface most clearly.

It pairs well as a pair either side of a bed, mirror or fireplace, and the slender form makes it equally effective in narrow hallways where a broader fitting would feel out of proportion. It pairs particularly well with antique brass, aged timber, dark stone and warm woven textiles.

The Story Behind Mullan

Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. The black clay finish draws from the iron rich soils and ancient bog landscapes of that part of Ireland. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

What bulb does the Osier Wall Light take?
It takes a standard E27 screw fit bulb, maximum 40W. Bulb not included. A warm white LED E27 suits the black clay finish well.

Will my wall light look exactly like the photo?
Close but not identical. The black clay finish is hand applied and fired, so surface texture and tone vary naturally between pieces.

Is this suitable for a bathroom?
The Osier Wall Light is IP20 rated and suitable for dry indoor areas only. It is not certified for bathroom wet zones. Please contact us if you need a bathroom rated fitting and we will advise.

Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.

Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
