The ceramic shade is formed by hand in the dedicated ceramics studio at Mullan Village, County Monaghan, and the matte white striped finish gives it an almost artisanal quality that sits beautifully against both contemporary and more traditional interiors. It is the kind of ceiling light that makes a room feel curated rather than simply furnished.
Mullan Lighting was born in 2009 when architect Mike Treanor took on the challenge of restoring a long derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, turning it into a world class lighting studio. The village traces its name directly back to muileann, the Irish word for mill, and that connection to craft, material and place is embedded in everything the studio produces. Over 100 skilled people now work under that roof, and Mullan's handmade ceramic lighting is exported to more than 55 countries worldwide. The ceramic collection itself was developed to reflect the colours and textures of the landscapes and old stone buildings surrounding the village, with every piece moulded, painted and fired on site.
As a flush or semi flush ceiling light the Osier is well suited to rooms where pendant drops are impractical, including bedrooms with lower ceilings, hallways, landings and bathroom spaces. It provides a clean, warm spread of light without dominating the ceiling visually, and the ceramic shade adds a layer of texture and interest that a standard fitting simply cannot offer. The matte white striped surface is particularly effective in rooms with natural materials, pale walls and warm metal accents.
