Red Iron: Earthy Warmth Suspended From the Ceiling
The Nakaii Pendant in Red Iron is a 20cm wide handmade ceramic pendant with the warm, earthy intensity of the red iron finish in a sculptural, upright ceramic form. The iron tones ranging from warm terracotta through to deeper rust and ochre are applied by hand at Mullan Village and fixed through firing, with natural variation preserved from piece to piece. No two shades come out of the kiln looking identical. Suspended on 1m of cable, it has a warm, characterful presence above a dining table, kitchen island, bedside or in any space where the ceiling should contribute warmth and material quality rather than simply sit there.
How It Works
The open ceramic shade faces downward, directing the G9 bulb's light into the room. The red iron tones respond most beautifully to warm evening light, deepening and enriching as brightness dims. A warm white dimmable G9 LED is strongly recommended to bring out the full depth and richness of this finish.
Where It Works Best
The Red Iron Nakaii suits dining rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and hallways where earthy warmth on the ceiling is valued. It pairs particularly well with antique brass, aged timber, terracotta tiles, dark stone and warm woven textiles. Group two or three above a kitchen island or dining table for a warm, cohesive scheme that feels genuinely handmade rather than assembled from a catalogue.
The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the red iron finish in direct response to the iron rich soils and weathered stone of the County Monaghan landscape. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

FAQs
What bulb does the Nakaii Pendant take?
It takes a G9 bulb, maximum 6.5W. Bulb not included. A warm white LED G9 is strongly recommended. The warmer the colour temperature, the richer the red iron tones appear in the evening.
Will my pendant look exactly like the photo?
Close but not identical. The red iron finish is hand applied and fired, so depth of colour and surface texture vary naturally between pieces.
Can the cable length be adjusted?
The pendant is supplied with 1m of cable. Your electrician can adjust this during installation if a different hanging height is needed.
Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable G9 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.
Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
