Mullan Kingii Pendant - Red Iron with Finish Options

Red Iron and IP44: Earthy Warmth Above the Bath

The Kingii Pendant in Red Iron brings the warm, earthy intensity of the red iron ceramic finish into bathrooms and wet environments with a full IP44 waterproof certification. At 20cm tall and 20cm wide it has a sculptural presence on the bathroom ceiling that standard IP rated fittings simply do not offer. The iron tones ranging from warm terracotta through to deeper rust and ochre are applied by hand at Mullan Village and fixed through firing, with natural variation preserved from piece to piece. No two shades come out of the kiln looking identical. With a warm E27 bulb in the evening the red iron tones deepen and enrich, creating an atmosphere above the bath that feels genuinely luxurious.

How It Works

Supplied with a glass diffuser for wet environment compliance. The E27 bulb sits within the shade, the glass diffuser softening and diffusing the light downward and outward into the bathroom. The red iron ceramic body sits above, the earthy tones responding most beautifully to warm evening light. A warm white dimmable E27 LED is strongly recommended to bring out the full depth of the red iron finish.

Where It Works Best

Above a freestanding bath in a bathroom with natural stone, aged timber and antique brass tapware, the Red Iron Kingii creates an atmosphere of earthy luxury. In a shower room or wet room it brings warmth and craft quality to a practical space. The red iron finish pairs particularly well with natural stone, terracotta, aged timber and warm metal tapware.

The Story Behind Mullan

Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. Ceramicist Stephen Kieran developed the red iron finish in direct response to the iron rich soils and weathered stone of the County Monaghan landscape. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

FAQs

Which bathroom zone is this rated for?
The Kingii Pendant is IP44 rated for Zone 2, the area beyond 0.6m from the edge of a bath or shower where protection against water splashing from any direction is required. It is not suitable for Zone 0 or Zone 1. Please check with your installer if you are unsure which zone applies to your installation point.

Will my pendant look exactly like the photo?
Close but not identical. The red iron finish is hand applied and fired, so depth of colour and surface texture vary naturally between pieces. The tones will be consistent but the specific character of your piece will be its own.

Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.

Can I use this above a freestanding bath?
Yes, provided the installation point falls within Zone 2. Your NICEIC electrician will confirm the exact zone based on the position of the bath and the proposed hanging point.

Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
