Mullan Kapok Ceiling Light - Matte White Striped with Finish Options

Matte White Striped, Clean Craft for the Ceiling

The Kapok Ceiling Light in Matte White Striped is a 27cm handmade ceramic flush fitting with clean, graphic precision that adapts to a wide range of interior styles without ever feeling generic. The matte white ground and fine stripes are applied by hand at Mullan Village before firing, each shade painted individually rather than machine produced. The striping carries a natural variation that distinguishes it immediately from anything standardised. It is the ceiling light to choose when you want genuine handmade quality without committing to a strong colour or material.

How It Works

The open ceramic shade faces downward, directing the E27 bulb's light into the room. The matte white striped surface reflects light cleanly around the ceramic rim, brightening the immediate ceiling area while the stripes add texture and visual interest that a plain white fitting could never offer. A warm white dimmable E27 LED gives full control over brightness and mood.

Where It Works Best

The Matte White Striped Kapok suits bedrooms, hallways, dining rooms and living rooms equally well. It pairs with virtually any interior palette, wall colour and hardware finish, and works particularly well in rooms with natural stone, pale timber, warm whites and soft neutrals. The ceiling is often the most overlooked surface in a room, and this is one of the most effective ways to bring it into the design without imposing a strong colour or material.

The Story Behind Mullan

Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. The matte white striped finish reflects the bleached stone and whitewashed plaster of the historic buildings surrounding the village. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

FAQs

What bulb does the Kapok Ceiling Light take?
It takes a standard E27 screw fit bulb, maximum 40W. Bulb not included. A warm white LED E27 works well with the matte white striped finish. A dimmable version gives full control over the mood in the room.

Will the stripes be perfectly even?
No, and that is intentional. The stripes are hand painted so there is natural variation in width and spacing. The overall impression is clean and graphic but up close you can see it was made by a person.

Is this suitable for a bathroom?
The Kapok Ceiling Light is IP20 rated and suitable for dry indoor areas only. It is not certified for bathroom wet zones. Please contact us if you need a bathroom rated fitting and we will advise.

Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.

Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
