Matte White Striped and IP44: Handmade Precision for the Bathroom
The Bog Oak IP44 Pendant Light in Matte White Striped answers a question that bathroom design constantly raises: how do you bring genuine handmade craft quality into a space that demands practical water resistance? The IP44 certification covers the practical requirement and the hand painted matte white striped ceramic shade covers everything else, the visual quality, the craft character and the clean graphic precision that makes the matte white striped finish one of the most versatile in the Mullan range. The stripes are applied by hand at Mullan Village before firing, which means every shade carries a natural variation that no machine produced fitting can replicate.
How It Works
The IP44 rated shade hangs on 1m of cable and directs the E27 bulb's light downward and outward. Supplied with a glass diffuser for wet environment compliance. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs. The matte white surface reflects light cleanly at the ceramic rim, adding a brightness and freshness to the bathroom ceiling that darker finishes do not provide.
Where It Works Best
Above a freestanding bath the Matte White Striped Bog Oak IP44 pendant creates a clean, fresh focal point that makes the bathroom feel genuinely designed. In a shower room, wet room or humid kitchen it brings handmade craft quality to a practical space. The matte white striped finish pairs beautifully with white metro tiles, natural stone, pale limewash plaster and any tapware finish from brushed gold to polished chrome.
The Story Behind Mullan
Mullan Lighting was founded in 2009 by architect Mike Treanor, who restored a derelict 19th century flax mill in Mullan Village, County Monaghan. The matte white striped finish reflects the bleached stone and whitewashed plaster of the historic buildings surrounding the village. Over 100 craftspeople work at the studio and every piece is made to order using sustainable clay and recycled brass.

FAQs
Which bathroom zone is this rated for?
The Bog Oak IP44 Pendant is rated for Zone 2, the area beyond 0.6m from the edge of a bath or shower where protection against water splashing from any direction is required. It is not suitable for Zone 0 or Zone 1. Please check with your installer if you are unsure which zone applies to your installation point.
Will the stripes be perfectly even?
No, and that is intentional. The stripes are hand painted, so there is natural variation in width and spacing. The overall impression is clean and graphic but up close you can see it was made by a person.
What bulb does this take?
It takes an E27 screw fit bulb, maximum 6.5W. Bulb not included. A warm white dimmable LED E27 works well in a bathroom setting.
Can I use a dimmable bulb?
Yes. Compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs. Ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED use. Bulb not included.
Can I return it?
No. Every Mullan light is made to order, so it cannot be returned unless it arrives faulty or damaged. If anything is wrong when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible.
