The Bulb Behind the Beam
Most 12V garden spotlights, including Lumena's own Astros and Hilospot ranges, rely on a simple GU5.3 MR16 lamp to do the actual work of making light. This is that lamp: a directional LED replacement built to slot into any MR16 fitting and outlast the halogen capsule it replaces many times over.
Choosing Your Colour Temperature
Two versions are available from the same lamp body. The 2700K warm white runs at 6.1W and suits fittings mixed among traditional halogen or incandescent lighting, giving the same yellowish glow. The 4000K cool white runs slightly brighter at 8.3W with a crisper, whiter light that reads more modern, and suits security or accent spotlights where a sharper beam matters more than warmth.
How It Works
A GU5.3 twin pin base clips into any standard MR16 holder, the same fitting used across Lumena's 12V garden spotlight range. The lens throws a 36 degree beam, close to the spread of a halogen MR16, so existing fittings need no adjustment when swapping over. It runs on AC or DC, meaning it works with the transformers already installed for halogen based systems, and switches on at full brightness immediately rather than warming up.
Where It Works Best
Fit it into any spotlight, spike light or uplighter built around an MR16 holder, the sort of fitting used throughout Lumena's 12V outdoor range for uplighting trees, statues and architectural features. The higher output cool white variant suits security and pathway spotlights where visibility matters most, while the warm white keeps a softer, more traditional garden glow for uplighting planting or ornaments.

Questions People Ask
Will this fit my existing MR16 spotlight?
Yes, provided the fitting takes a standard GU5.3 MR16 lamp and runs on a 12V AC or DC transformer, which covers the great majority of low voltage garden spotlights, spike lights and uplighters.
Is it dimmable?
No, this version is non dimmable. If dimming matters, look for a lamp specifically listed as dimmable rather than fitting this one to a dimmer circuit.
Which colour temperature should I choose?
Warm white 2700K gives a softer, more traditional glow that blends with halogen style lighting, while cool white 4000K is brighter and crisper, better suited to security or pathway spotlights where visibility is the priority.
